Nine Matches Witness Intense Competition Across Four Venues in Baramulla District; Football Action to Continue Over the Coming Days
Baramulla, October 10: The UT-Level Inter-District Football Competition for Under-17 Boys, organised by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), J&K, under the supervision of Director General Anuradha Gupta, IAS, and hosted by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, District Baramulla, witnessed another action-packed day on Saturday, with young footballers displaying remarkable skill, determination and sportsmanship across multiple venues.
At the MET Ground, Sopore, Jammu defeated Bandipora 2–0 in the opening encounter, while Poonch registered a convincing 3–0 victory over Kulgam. In the third match, Bandipora bounced back emphatically to defeat Reasi by commanding a 12–0 margin.
At HSS Hadipora, Budgam and Anantnag played out a draw in the opening fixture. Kupwara then secured a 4–0 victory over Kathua, followed by Budgam’s 2–1 win against Samba. In the fourth encounter, Kupwara continued its impressive run by defeating Anantnag 6–1.
Meanwhile, at the Synthetic Turf, Azad Ganj, Srinagar registered a convincing 5–0 victory over Udhampur, while Pulwama edged past Shopian 2–1 in a closely contested encounter.
At St. Joseph’s School Ground, Baramulla, Srinagar defeated Kishtwar 2–0 in the opening match. The subsequent fixture between Jammu and Kulgam was underway at the time of reporting, with Kulgam leading 1–0.
Mushtaq Ahmad Pampori, District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO), Baramulla, appreciated the enthusiasm and competitive spirit displayed by the participating teams. He emphasised that such competitions provide a valuable platform for young footballers to showcase their talent, gain competitive exposure and strengthen discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship. He also reiterated the department’s commitment to promoting grassroots sports and nurturing emerging football talent across Jammu and Kashmir.
The competition will continue over the next few days, with participating district teams striving to advance through the tournament and secure honours at the UT level.
