The India-UAE Joint Military Exercise MOUNTAIN GUARDIAN 2026 is progressing at the Foreign Training Node, Chaubatia, Uttarakhand. The 14-day exercise, being conducted from 05 to 18 October 2026, brings together 92 personnel, with equal representation from the Indian Army and the UAE Army. The Indian Army contingent comprises troops from a Bhairav Battalion, while the UAE Army is represented by a Mountain Infantry Battalion.

During the initial phase, troops from both armies have undergone intensive joint training focused on physical endurance, combat readiness and specialised mountain warfare skills. The activities include physical training, Jiu-Jitsu, reflex shooting, rock climbing, rappelling, fox-line training, slithering, day and night firing, and specialised mountain craft training.
As the exercise progresses, the participating contingents will undertake joint planning, tactical drills, establishment of surveillance grids, drone operations, obstacle training and integrated field exercises. The training will place increasing emphasis on technology-enabled operations and coordinated responses in challenging mountainous terrain.

The joint exercise is enhancing interoperability, tactical proficiency and mutual understanding between the two armies. It also provides an opportunity to exchange professional expertise and best practices in mountain warfare, strengthening operational coordination and the ability to function effectively in demanding terrain.

Exercise MOUNTAIN GUARDIAN 2026 underscores the commitment of India and the UAE to strengthening defence cooperation, building mutual trust and fostering enduring professional ties between their armed forces.
